The Madrid Marriott Auditorium Hotel & Conference Center is hands down the best Marriott hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying in, excluding Marriott Resorts (qualifier - Marriott brand hotel, not the entire Marriott International portfolio).
This property is a quick 10 minute shuttle from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), and is geared toward arriving and departing passengers. Unfortunately, it is pretty far from Central Madrid, which is accessible either by cab (~20 minutes) or rail (~45 minutes).
I used my annual free night certificate I get with my Marriott Rewards Premier Visa. Incredibly, the Auditorium Hotel is only a Category 2 Property!
Immediately upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly team member who spoke very good English. He took my bags and delivered them to my room as I was checking in. I booked a Premium King Guest Room (the basic room), but was upgraded to a Suite at check in thanks to my Platinum Premier Elite status.
The room was very large. There was a well appointed half-bath just inside the entryway. There was a sitting room beyond the entryway, which could be closed off by french doors. It had a desk, a large couch, and a two chairs situated around a coffee table. The bedroom was located off the sitting room, and could be closed off by french doors. The bedroom was spacious, with a comfortable king bed (actually two full beds pushed together - which is common in Europe), and a chair in the corner. The full bath had a tub shower, double sinks with a large counter, and a separate small toilet room.
All of the suites include Executive Lounge access. The Executive Lounge was excellent - much better than most Marriott lounges. It had a full meal, consisting of a salad bar, several hot and cold food options, and an open bar with beer, wine, and liquor. There was ample seating in the lounge, and was well staffed. It was also open 24/7. Hot food wasn’t available at all hours, but you could get fruit and other food and drinks around the clock.
There are several other food options - in the luxuriously appointed lobby - if you don’t have lounge access. The hotel has a spa, a large pool, and rooftop tennis courts. All of the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and most spoke English. If they didn’t, an English speaker was always nearby. My daughter and I saw the team member that took our bags later in the day, and he greeted her by name. I was treated very well as an Elite member and received a welcome gift of chocolate covered strawberries that were delivered to my room about an hour after arriving.
If you are flying into or out of MAD and want to stay near the airport, definitely stay at the Madrid Marriott Auditorium Hotel & Conference Center. I plan to stay there again the first opportunity I get.
